Training on Comprehensive Right Based in Family Planning Services (Centre of Excellence), 3 – 21 September 2018, Yogyakarta

National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN), Ministry of State Secretariat, UNFPA Indonesia and Gadjah Mada University collaborate in conducting International Training on Comprehensive Right Based in Family Planning Services from 2 until 22 September 2018. There were 7 (seven) participants from 4 (four) countries namely Bangladesh, Ghana, Papua New Guinea, and Timor Leste who were joining this clinical training.

The primary goal of the course is to impart knowledge and skills to provide and manage quality family planning services that are rights-based and are appropriate for the provider’s level of training, experience and the setting in which s/he works.

In details, by the end of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Provide culturally sensitive and high quality health education across the reproductive life cycle to promote planned pregnancies at the right age and on the benefits of family planning to individuals, families and communities.
  2. Provide high quality, culturally-sensitive counselling services to enable clients at various stages of reproductive life cycle to make informed choices of FP methods.
  3. Provide quality FP services, that is appropriate based on client’s informed choice and screening for medical eligibility or refer clients to an appropriate facility if the services cannot be provided in the facility.
  4. Manage common side effects of contraceptive methods by counselling and appropriate advice, manage contraceptive-related complications, and refer clients as necessary.
  5. Conduct/facilitate  routine  follow-up  for  FP  clients  to  enhance  continuing  satisfaction  and acceptance.
  6. Provide appropriate FP services during humanitarian crisis and manage contraceptive logistics in coordination with humanitarian logistics systems.
  7. Manage and / or supervise the FP programme efficiently, in accordance with the expected level of job performance, and monitor performance regularly.
  8. Efficiently manage contraceptive logistics systems to ensure right quantity and combination of quality products in facilities to serve client’s needs.
  9. Communicate effectively on family planning in a culturally–sensitive manner in clinics and communities and to various population groups to create demand for the service.

The duration of the training course was 20 (twenty) effective days and was held from 3 to 22 September 2018 implemented in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The training was designed to include a mix of lectures, clinical practice using models, and clinical practice in human being. The  content  will  cover  all  aspects  of  family  planning,  all  family  planning  methods  including traditional  and  modern  methods, counselling, and  management  of  family  planning  programme including behaviour change communication, reproductive health commodity security, and monitoring and evaluation. At the end of the course, the participants developed and presented a plan of action.
