Kampung KB Penarungan

Kampung KB Penarungan is distinctive for its role in supporting Penarungan Village in attaining its vision and mission. Thanks to the initiative and awareness of the village head, the Kampung KB program is aligned towards the village’s goals. Under the village head’s leadership, the Kampung KB working group has been able to optimize local government and cross-sector stakeholders’ support and allocate the village’s budget to the appropriate programs. Today, Penarungan is a tourism destination with its youth playing an important role in managing visitors’ attractions.

Where: Mengwi, Badung Regency, Bali Province
Date of establishment: 13 March 2016

Administratively located in Mengwi District of Badung Regency, Penarungan Village is a 468-hectare area that borders Abiansemal Dauh Yeh Cani Village in the east, Lukluk Subdistrict in the south, Gulingan Village in the west, and Abiansemal in the north.

The village sits on a lowland. Most of the area is covered by agricultural fields and the weather is characterized by moderate rain. As of 2019, Penarungan is home to 6,815 people – over 50% of whom work as farmers and the rest is a mix of sellers, day laborers, small business owners, civil servants, and company employees.

Penarungan can be proud of its employment rate; none of its residents in the productive age are out of work. This success can be attributed to, among many factors, Kampung KB that introduced the Population, Family Planning, and Family Development Program (KKBPK) in Penarungan. KKPBK has increased the number of active family planning participants, initiated income improvement activities for families, and activated a family-rooted empowerment forum that employs three-prong approach of under-five parenting, youth parenting and education, and elderly care.

With greater community engagement, Penarungan has seen significant improvements – roads paved and repaired, green strip that separates houses and sidewalks planted and maintained, and tourism sites developed.

Tourism in particular is thriving in Penarungan. For its popularity, Kampung KB Penarungan is also known as Kampung KB Penarungan Tourism Site. Penarungan offers four main attractions:

  1. Lazy river tubing
Using floats that can accommodate up to five persons each, the river tubing will take visitors through the scenic route of the western side of Penarungan and along Dauh Pekeh subvillage. The tranquil water and relatively flat surface make this attraction suitable for families with young children.
  2. ‘Eleven Spouts’ in Beji Paluh Park, site of water rituals
A faith-based site where devotees come to perform cleansing ritual, Beji Paluh Park incorporates the Hindhu temple pura and a large pond for the cleansing ritual to take place. The clear and clean water comes from natural spring and is believed to have healing properties.
  3. Jogging track
The jogging track built in Penarungan offers runners, or any visitor, the idyllic view of paddy fields and rivers.
  4. Anyar Park cultural and nature park
Popular among international tourists, Anyar Park offers a taste of authentic rural living in Bali. Visitors get to try cooking using firewood, preparing Balinese dishes, or creating canang – traditional offerings in Bali for the Hindu gods while clothed in Balinese attire. They can join a worship ritual and try walk the offerings alongside traditional music, or get down to the paddy fields and plough the lands with cattles.

Kampung KB Penarungan Tourism Site ranks third according to the national Model Kampung KB sites.
