BKKBN, Ministry of State Secretariat, and UNFPA hosted Webinar on Strategic Partnership with Muslim Religious Leaders in Family Planning for Malaysian delegates

BKKBN, Ministry of State Secreatariat, and UNFPA has hosted the South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) webinar on strategic Partnership with Muslim religious leaders in family planning and reproductive health, prevention and response to violence against women and child marriage for marriage for Malaysian delegates. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the training was conducted via Zoom meeting on September 10, 2020 from 9AM to 1 PM.

Organized by Bureau for Foreign Technical Cooperation-Ministry of State Secretariat; Center for International Training and Collaboration – National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) in collaboration with UNFPA Indonesia, this event shared Indonesian experience with participants from Malaysia in developing strategic partnership with Muslim Religious Leaders in Family Planning. this event shared Indonesian experience on developing strategic partnership with Muslim Religious Leaders in Family Planning to the Malaysian delegates.

In the opening, Nanik Purwanti, the Head for Bureau for foreign Technical Cooperation of the Ministry of State Secretariat, stated that BKKBN continues to create success stories on Indonesia South-South and Triangular Cooperation. “We note that since our partnership with BKKBN and UNFPA in 2006, Indonesia have successfully implemented 25 SSTC programs on Family Planning with more than 300 alumni from more than 20 countries therefore in this very valuable experience to participate in this program,” she said.

Meanwhile, UNFPA’s Representative in Indonesia Anjali Sen stated that in both Indonesia and Malaysia, Muslim leaders play a critical role in community as they are involved in many aspects of life through activities, including pre-marriage consultation, primary and secondary education and religious events, as well as becoming the voice that offers hope for those who seek solace amid the challenges in life.

The Deputy Director General Policy of Malaysia’s National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN), Hairil Fadzly Md Akir revealed that Malaysian Government is now focusing on addressing domestic violence caused by the lack of readiness of married couples before marriage. He also expressed his gratitude an appreciation to Indonesia for the implementation of this program since it may give solutions to the country’s problems.

The course is designed to include a mix presentation and sharing session from Indonesia and Malaysia, with distinguish speakers from Islamic Based Organization and Muslim Religious Leaders including Furqan la Faried, Risman Musa, Nur Rofiah, Alissa Wahid and Samidjo. It provided participants with information on the strategic roles of Islamic based organizations and Muslimm Leaders in fostering social concern for family planning program, as well as enhancing their capacity to develop strategic partnership with Muslim Leaders and Islamic based organization.
