Waste Mangement Workshop at Kulon Progo

Based on Presidential Decree No. 72 of 2021 concerning the Acceleration of Stunting Reduction, President Jokowi appointed BKKBN as Chief Executive of the Stunting Reduction Acceleration Program. The Head of the BKKBN (National Population and Family Planning Board) Indonesia, Dr.(HC) dr.Hasto Wardoyo, Sp.OG(K) then appointed the KKB International Training & Cooperation Center which is part of the Deputy for Training, Research & Development (Deputi Pelatihan, Penelitian, & Pengembangan) as the implementing committee for the program.

One of the activities of the Center for International Population and Family Planning Training & Cooperation is holding a Workshop on Management of Domestic Inorganic Waste Management for Healthy Families Prosperous Families throughout Kulon Progo Regency, together with the Government of the Republic of Seychelles and related agencies (BKKBN Yogyakarta Special Region Province, BKKBN for Kulon Progo Regency, District Agriculture Service of Kulon Progo, Department of the Environment Services of Kulon Progo Regency).

The workshop lasted for 3 days (17-19 May 2022) attended by approximately 50 people consisting of representatives of KB (Family Planning) Village (Family Planning Extension (PKB) Coordinator, Cadres for Business Program for Increasing Acceptor Family Income (UPPKA), Cadres of Family Planning Village Data Houses, and Waste Management Cadres) each Kapanewon in Kulon Progo Regency. The opening of the workshop activities was carried out by the Head of the Indonesian BKKBN and was also attended by the Governor of Yogyakarta Special Region (represented by Regional Assistant I), the Regent of Kulon Progo, Kanjeng Gusti Bendara, Directorate General of Food Crops of the Ministry of Agriculture, and Ambassador of the Republic of Seychelles.

 

After the opening ceremony, followed by the signing of the MOU Ambassador of Seychelles with the International Organization Regions 20 (R-20). Then proceed with the presentation of material from Prof. Damanik as Deputy for Training, Research & Development and Hermita Akmal, as Senior Vice President of Business Optimization of PT. Bank BNI ’46 (sponsor workshop). The two presenters provided materials related to sorting waste and turning waste into blessings through a waste bank in collaboration with BNI’46, so that a smart city can be realized in Kulon Progo Regency. Also present were speakers from Seychelles, Arman Candra and Joshua, regarding the introduction of the State of Seychelles which is the second country with per capita income on the African continent. The people of Seychelles, from children to adults, are used to living clean and protecting the environment so that many tourists are interested in visiting their country. At the end of the first day’s activities, participants received an assignment from the resource person to make group waste clippings for each Kapanewon which would be assessed at the end of the workshop.

On the second day of the workshop, participants were invited to visit the Banyuroto Landfill (TPA) and the Bugel KB Village. At the Banyuroto Landfill (TPA), participants learned a lot about the final processing of organic waste which can be processed into compost and methane gas, while for the final process inorganic waste will be burned. In Bugel KB Village, participants learned about UPPKA management and Group Definitive Plans (RDK) that directly contribute to accelerating stunting reduction, through DASHAT (Healthy Kitchen Overcoming Stunting) and PESAT (Population Education Corner for the Community) activities.

On the third day of the workshop, workshop participants studied with Isna Mansuuroh, S.Pd., M.Pd. related to “Turning Garbage into Blessings”. Isna said that waste processing (segregating waste) before it reaches the landfill, can be started from within the family, namely by limiting/reducing the use of waste. Even more, if we are able to do the Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle process.

Prior to the closing of the workshop, the winners of the clipping competition were announced and certificates were handed over. The winner of the clipping competition was won by Kapanewon Pengasih as the General Champion and Kapanewon Galur as the Favorite Champion chosen by the Government of Seychelles. Prof. Damanik and Astungkoro, Arman Candra, and Ukik Kusuma Kurniawan symbolically handed over the certificates to 4 representatives from each cadre. Furthermore, the Regional Secretary of the Kulon Progo Regency Government, Astungkoro gave the closing remarks of the workshop and the event was closed by the Deputy for Training, Research & Development , Prof. Damanik.
