IELTS INTENSIVE COURSE AND IELTS OFFICIAL TEST 2022 (13 JULY – 7 AUGUST 2022)

As a follow-up of the IELTS Prediction Test and Interview Test conducted in 2022, the Center of International Training and Collaboration of National Population and Family Planning Board of Indonesia (CITC NPFPB/ PULIN BKKBN) facilitated the 2022 IELTS Intensive Course. A total of 13 BKKBN employee was selected and participated in the IELTS Preparation course implemented by the IALF Jakarta. Among them just only 10 employees got the Official IELTS Test. The course was started on Monday 13 July to Friday 7 August 2020. The class started every day from 09:00 to 12:00 and continues from 13:00 to 15:00 for Monday to Friday. The course was constituted of 100 hours of instruction.

The Objectives of the program were to familiarised selected participants with the format of the IELTS test; to enable them to develop appropriate language and test-taking techniques, in particular as they apply to the IELTS test; to provide them with access to a range of IELTS practice materials and appropriate English language learning resources.

Participants were given four-course components of the training, s peaking, listening, reading, and writing. The course gave participants the format of the IELTS test. They are also given opportunities to practice different parts of the interview during pair-work activities in class. In addition to familiarisation with the format of the four different parts of the test, participants were given guidance in some of the following test-taking techniques:

  1. General – keeping an eye on the clock, allocating time appropriately, working under pressure, controlling nerves effectively;
  2. Reading – surveying a text, predicting, speed-reading techniques, skimming, scanning, searching, morising, using visual cues, matching headings to paragraphs;
  3. Writing – analysing questions, planning an essay, generating and organising ideas quickly (brainstorming), linking arguments clearly, writing conclusions, awareness of audience, speed writing;
  4. Listening – predicting language and guessing from context clues, listening to a range of different accents, developing concentration and improving short-term memory skills, transferring information from spoken texts to visual texts and diagrams, and transferring answers correctly;
  5. Speaking – interview techniques, coping with nerves, making a good impression, expanding on responses.

At the end of the course, 10 selected employees were given an IELTS official test for free. The result of the test showed a significant increase in the IELTS score, which indicated the successful implementation of the IELTS intensive course and meeting the expectation of CITC BKKBN.
